Miranda was a very ordinary young girl, going about a perfectly ordinary life. Perhaps she had less family than most, fewer friends, being somewhat shy and withdrawn. And perhaps her sexual fantasies, which she kept quite secret, except on the internet, were a tad more oriented to bondage than most, but she was still a perfectly ordinary girl. And yet, she stood out, somehow, to someone, and wakened one day in a place far from home, naked, in chains, and about to begin a life of slavery from which she would never escape. Through her initial training and subjugation, we follow Miranda as she is taken to the auction and sold, and then enters a life of slavery as a maid and sexual plaything to a European couple.

I must agree with the previous reviewer in that a little more emotional connection would be appreciated. I suppose the helmets worn by the men are there to ensure this connection doesn't take place, but I had expected this would change after the main character was sold to a less impersonal master. There are, however, many things I liked in this book. The good writing, of course, and the presence of a real plot. Life-long slavery gave the female protagonist time to evolve, which is a good thing, too. I liked her experience as a real, houseworking servant maid, only her uniform could have been a little less conventional. I realize, of course, that black nylons and stiletto heels are 'de rigueur' in a 'French Maid' outfit, but can't a 'real' maid's uniform depart, for once, from this mold? Couldn't she have gone barefoot, for instance? Wouldn't it be deliciously humiliating for her, not to mention physically uncomfortable, to be sent shopping on her bare feet?
(Here I must confess that I enjoy the 'barefoot slave girl' trope in erotic fiction: an element that occurs far too seldom for my taste and whose presence, alas, can not be predicted from book covers or descriptions. Nylons and/or stilleto heels pursue the indifferent reader even into moorish harems, warlords' headquarters, pirates' hideouts and tropical plantations).
So, come on, J.J. Argus: you are a much better writer than John Norman and I am sure you can make good use of 'his' very successful trope without boring the reader to tears with endless preaching. The market for barefoot slave girls is out there, I'm sure, and I for one would be one of the buyers.

A Life of Slavery edition by JJ Argus Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I bought this book out of curiosity, had never read the Author and was curious. I had read the description, and shouldn't have been surprised; I got exactly what it said. Slavery.
It's not a book with happy endings; it's not a book with flowery scenes. It's about slavery, about breaking down the human spirit.
I was confused at first. The book starts out with this young woman, a plain Jane. Experimenting with her sexual self. Like most young women, you think this book is going to be about her finding herself. NOT....The next minute she wakes up in a strange bed, and she's thrown into this world. It's not pretty. It's pretty much emotion-less the way it is done to break this person. Like I said it's not pretty. It's said in a matter of fact way. This is it. Take it or leave it. If you're looking for a happy ending, you won't get it with this book. If you're looking for ways to break down a person, then I say this book is for you. It left the person reading it flat. The Author wrote the book well. Did I like it. No, not really. To be honest, this type of book isn't my style. Am I glad I read it, yes I enjoy reading new Authors and will read more of her books.
I enjoy books from JJ Argus. They are always well written and keep me reading until the end. Thank you for the wonderful writing.
No one who enjoys lovemaking and sensuality among people. I just felt sorry for her and kept hoping she would kill her captors.
This is a sad story she had nothing even in the end never felt she was anything but a slave a true slave till the end(
